Lawrence Anthony ( 17 September 1950 - 2 March 2012) devoted his life to preserving endangered animals. He also founded The Earth Organization and also headed the Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand.   In 1999, Lawrence rescued and rehabilitated some South African Elephants that had gone rogue and deemed dangerous and were supposed to be shot down.   Against common reasoning, Lawrence approached the Matriarch of the herd, Nana, using body language and all he could and was able to convince her and her herd to come back with him to the reserve, therefore saving their lives.
